Calgary is a world leader in the field of education and research for learning disabilities and ADHD. As a model of excellence or many, the Foothills Academy Society, Calgary's premiere educational facility, is hosting their first-ever World Summit in Lake Louise, Alberta from April 14 - 16, 2008.
History of the Orgtanization
Two visionary founders recognized in 1979 the need for a program geared specifically for students with learning disabilities including dyslexia, short term memory, ADHD, and others.
They had a vision of a school and society that would assist individuals with learning disabilities.
What began in a small leased school with 33 students has progressed into an internationally recognized society for high quality work with students who have learning disabilities and ADHD.
The program has received the following awards
“National Education Award” 2004; and “Best Facility for Children with Special Needs in the World”, 1990;Governor General of Canada Medal of Honour for “Outstanding Service and Dedication to fellow Canadians”; Certificate of Merit, The Vangaurd school of Montreal for “Outstanding Programming for Children with Learning Disabilities”;
Partnerships include:
The University of Calgary, Faculty of Medicine for innovative research, The University of Calgary faculties of Kinesiology, Social Work, Education, Psychology and Rehabilitation Studies; The University of Alberta, The University of Acadia, Mount Allison University and others.
